Morocco Project

In 2009, Marisa received a grant from the US State Department and Dar America to teach young adults and children from marginalized areas of Casablanca, Morocco, how to blog about their lives. The initiative began after Marisa visited the area where several of her first students came from for Time Magazine.

Now in it’s fourth year, Marisa has expanded the program and teamed up with Moroccan journalist Mouna Belgrini and l’Ecole Supérieure de Journalisme et de Communication to teach two dozen Casablanca teenagers.

The project has been covered in such publications as:

The New York Times/International Herald Tribune: “Creating a Children’s Refuge in Morocco’s Worst Slums”

Vogue April 2011: “Keeping the Faith”
